SSL’s intensive science-based performance training program offers the opportunity for College (D1, D2 + D3) athletes that are home for the summer to train at the lab over the course of a two-month period. This specialized and intensive program is intended to roll out in June and commence in August, right before college athletes have to go back to their respective universities and colleges. SSL provides accommodations for out of state college athletes, who wish to travel to Staten Island to train for the summer. These accommodations include reduced rates at premier hotel chains such as the Hilton and Hampton Inn. Hotel rates are as followed:
Individual Nights: $139/night
30+ Nights: $119/night
Various elite athletes from all over the world have traveled to the lab for its cutting-edge, science-based performance training to enhance their technical sports skills, prepare for competition or the next collegiate season, as well as reach their full athletic potential. The lab has been featured as a top training destination for pro and elite level athletes by numerous media outlets such as Gear Patrol, IQ by Intel, Daily Burn, USA Today, and Sporttechie.
After discussing an athlete’s specific goals, our team of sports scientists, exercise scientists, biomechanists, performance enhancement specialists, athletic trainers and strength and conditioning coaches work collaboratively in developing an individualized protocol, which are both sport-specific and position-specific. Our team of sports science experts look at each athlete through a scientific lens by analyzing his or her individual kinetic, neurological, musculoskeletal ability and aerobic capacity. Using 3D kinematic and motion analysis, we identify movement patterns and muscle imbalances that are unique and specific to the athlete’s phenotype. Every athlete that has trained at the lab has seen marked improvement in various and critical, yet often overlooked, areas of their performance. Methods used by the SSL encompass not only performance training, but also proactive pre-habilitative exercise, nutrition and recovery methods to improve range of motion, movement efficiency, reduce the risk of injury and maximize performance.
SSL’s intensive specialized training program is catered to the most elite college athletes in the world. Athletes committed to this specialized program typically train 3-4 times a week, as that produces the best results possible, while decreasing the risk of injury. This program is an essential part of an athlete’s off-season training regimen and it is imperative that the athlete is committed to at least 3 training sessions a week. Participating in this program will provide a competitive edge over other college athletes that are simply doing traditional workout/training programs over the summer. This two-month program will ensure each college athletes achieves their performance objectives and any school specific lifting/training requirements. By the time the athlete departs for college at the end of August, they will be bigger, faster, and stronger and ready to excel in their respective sport.
The program also includes access to a world class team of sports scientists, athletic trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, biomechanists and performance enhancement specialists. SSL’s experts are committed and have a proven track record of getting every athlete better, faster, and stronger, backed by data to underscore the improvements made. To that end, SSL’s sports science experts will work closely with each athlete on an individual level to ensure maximum improvements are made by the end of the program. Of note, SSL’s strength and conditioning coach, Richard James has nearly a decade of experience in working with D1 College Athletes. He is known for nurturing and producing an unprecedented four Olympians during his decade-long tenure at Long Island University’s (LIU) Division 1 Athletics Department. Richard was also responsible for the success of the LIU Division I Basketball programs, bringing home three straight championships from 2011-2013 after a 13-year drought. In those three years, LIU also captured the milestone of 20+ win seasons. The Blackbirds clinched a berth in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament in 2011 and 2012, which was an impressive feat for the entire athletic program. Richard will be an integral part of this intensive specialized program this summer and beyond.
